The contest started on the 16th of July and will end on the 15th of October 2010.

Theme: HUMAN vs. DEMON!

The theme is inspired by Peter V. Brett, the author of the famous “The Painted Man” book, and by Lauren K. Cannon (~navate), the artist that helped Peter with awesome artwork for his brilliant books!

You don’t have to read the books to enter this contest, but if you did, it may help you with some pretty interesting ideas. So, the theme revolves around the war between humans and demons. You have 2 possibilities for your entry:
1. A clear human vs. demon war – meaning you must have at least one human (man or woman) fighting against at least one demon (your choice of a beast).

2. A book inspired scenario, containing a scene from the book, or a certain character (either human or demon), at your choice.

If you decide to participate with a photo manipulation, you can (only if you want to!) use these official wards, made by ~navate for Peter V. Brett’s books, and posted with both of their permissions on deviantart as a brush pack for Photoshop.




ATTENTION! Human-demon hybrids won’t be accepted, so please be careful when you send your entry!

Sometimes there is very good reason to be afraid of the dark...

Eleven-year-old Arlen lives with his parents on their small farmstead, half a day's ride away from the isolated hamlet of Tibbet's Brook.

As dusk falls upon Arlen's world, a strange mist rises from the ground, a mist carrying nightmares to the surface. A mist that promises a violent death to any foolish enough to brave the coming darkness, for hungry corelings - demons that cannot be harmed by mortal weapons - materialize from the vapours to feed on the living. As the sun sets, people have no choice but to take shelter behind magical wards and pray that their protection holds until the creatures dissolve with the first signs of dawn.

When Arlen's life is shattered by the demon plague, he is forced to see that it is fear, rather than the demons, which truly cripples humanity. Believing that there is more to his world than to live in constant fear, he must risk leaving the safety of his wards to discover a different path.

In the small town of Cutter's Hollow, Leesha's perfect future is destroyed by betrayal and a simple lie. Publicly shamed, she is reduced to gathering herbs and tending an old woman more fearsome than the corelings. Yet in her disgrace, she becomes the guardian of dangerous ancient knowledge.

Orphaned and crippled in a demon attack, young Rojer takes solace in mastering the musical arts of a Jongleur, only to learn that his unique talent gives him unexpected power over the night.

Together, these three young people will offer humanity a last, fleeting chance of survival.

Also, here are a few other examples of artwork that might inspire you for the contest! But please don’t copy them!

Rules

Okay, so there will be a few simple rules you will have to follow, just like last time:

* Place a link to this page in the description box of your entry, so that people will have the chance to find out about our newest contest!  
* Only group members can participate. But don’t let this discourage you! Believe me, it’s easy as pie to join! All you have to do is to push a button, and voila! You’ll be a member and you’ll be also able to participate
* The entry can be new, as well as old. But be careful, and choose wisely before sending your entry. Make sure it fits the theme!
* There will be 2 entries allowed per participant this time, so this means MOAR chance to win!
* ALL MEDIAS ARE ACCEPTED! This means you can send photography, digital art, traditional art, literature, sculpture, even stock! But be creative. It will be very hard to depict the theme in a photo, per example.
* The entry must not have the dA watermark over it. However, you can use your own watermark or signature, but please do not place it over important areas in your entry.
* If you use stocks, brushes and resources in your entry, provide a direct link to the original resource you have used. Please credit all of the stock providers and do not post a link only to the stocker’s profile. Your entry will be judged according to the way you use each resource. Also, the same rule applies for non-dA stocks: direct link to the original resource!
* Do not copy any other artist’s work. If you don’t really have your own idea, please post a link to the artwork that inspired you. We will take into consideration the way you played with the same idea. If you use someone else’s idea and don’t post a link to it, we will disqualify you.
* Pornographic, racist and xenophobic entries will be refused. However, nudes are allowed, as long as they are artistic and really express something.

Entries that disregard any of these simple rules will be rejected, so please read them carefully. I’m not asking you too much, you just need to pay some attention.



The entries must be sent via note to my personal account, ~skyleaf. The note must be entitled “Human Vs. Demon Contest” and it must contain the THUMB to your entry.

Attention! If your note does not have these 2 requirements, it won’t be taken into consideration.



The prize list is short, cause we’re only at the beginning, but we really hope people will offer to help us by donating any type of prize.
